Telangana recorded a considerably low amount of new COVID-19 cases on Sunday compared to the past few days. 894 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus were detected in the state on Sunday taking the overall tally to 92,255. The death toll reached 703 with ten new deaths on Sunday. Hyderabad recorded only 147 new cases on Sunday as the rate of infection continues to slow down in the city.
Hyderabad was once one of the hotspots in Telangana and was reporting cases in excess of 500 on a daily basis. However, the infection rate seems to have come in control in the district which comes as a hugely positive sign for the state government and the health authorities. While the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area recorded 147 new cases, other districts like Rangareddy and Karimnagar reported 85 and 69 cases respectively.
However, a low amount of testing can be the reason behind the less number of cases reported in Telangana on Sunday. As per the health bulletin by the state which had the updated data till 8 PM on Sunday, 8,794 samples were tested. So far more than 7,50,000 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Telangana. The recovery rate in the state has reached over 76%.
More than 7,100 patients have managed to recover from COVID-19 and have been discharged from various hospitals in Telangana. There are 21,420 active cases in the state out of which 14,404 are in home/institutional isolation. The fatality rate in Telangana has come down to 0.76% compared to 1.93% at the national level.
20,291 samples have been tested per million population in the state and the rate of testing is likely to be ramped up further in the coming days to bring down the rate of infection. Over 65% of overall positive cases were males while 34.90% were female. 53.875 deaths in the state have occurred due to comorbidities among patients infected with COVID-19.
