London is among the eight regions that moved into a tier two lockdown today, which sees a ban on households mixing indoors.
Joining London in the move to tier two are Elmbridge, Barrow-in-Furness, North East Derbyshire, Erewash, Chesterfield, York, and Essex (excluding Southend and Thurrock).
The Prime Minister’s negotiations with Manchester over the city’s tier 3 lockdown continues, and Boris Johnson has said he ‘will intervene’ if they cannot reach an agreement.
The news comes as the UK recorded 150 deaths and 16,171 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours.
This brings the UK’s death toll to 43,579, and the total number of cases to 705,428.
