Representative imageELURU: A medical student who was staying in a lodge in Eluru was found dead in his room on Sunday night. After the student, who was pursuing his PG in anaesthesia at Asram hospital in Eluru, didn’t come out of his room for three days, the lodge staff called the police who broke the door and found him lying dead. The student had checked in at the lodge on June 25.
The police found multivitamin and paracetamol tablets while checking the room, and suspecting that the deceased could be Covid-19 positive, informed health officials who collected his swab sample and sent it for testing. The sample returned positive.
The student, who hailed from Visakhapatnam, was staying in the hostel as his college is closed due to the pandemic. It is suspected that he might have taken a room in the lodge to self-isolate himself over suspicion of having contracted Covid-19 infection. His parents reached Eluru on Monday morning after being informed by the police. This is the second Covid-19 casualty among medical students.
